THE PLAYABLE INTERIOR / VOL. 01AN INDEPENDENT FIELD GUIDE

A field guide to
games & good spaces.

04 / The colophonこのガイドについて

The playable interior.

A field guide,
not a ranking.

This atlas explores modern recreations, miniature systems and configurable computers through two questions: what makes an object interesting, and what does living with it involve? Quiet integration leads, with equal care for proud display and equipment brought out for play.

There are no decor scores, affiliate buying links or live-stock claims. Discontinued consoles and accessories can be considered, including second-hand or imported examples from eBay. Match the exact model and receiver, inspect condition and returns, and do not assume a current listing has been checked. Names and familiar aliases help you discover a machine; each profile identifies its actual region and edition.

What the evidence means.

Hardware facts come from the sources linked on each profile, with review dates shown there. Manufacturer documentation is not a hands-on test. The proposed rooms are editorial concepts, not measured installations. Enclosure size never stands in for controller reach, cable routing, structural support or comfortable play space.

Unverified measurements are identified. Conflicting Polycade specifications are withheld from numeric fit advice. The Mini-PC configuration has not been tested; THEA1200 availability is not promised. Confirm current instructions for your exact hardware before installation or purchase.

About
the pictures.

All device portraits are AI-generated studio studies, guided by visual references and labeled wherever used. They can differ in small details and are not evidence of exact geometry, included accessories or compatibility. Hardware colors are preserved across the three site palettes.

Photorealistic room scenes are AI-generated interior concepts, not photographs of completed homes or tested installations. The original cable and storage diagrams remain schematic. No image is a scale drawing or an installation instruction.

The custom vector wordmark and small cartridge companion are original artwork. The opening spacecraft is an original AI-generated illustration inspired by the visual energy of Japanese cartridge and cabinet art; it is decorative, not a depiction of gaming hardware. Manufacturer names identify the products; this independent project does not imply their endorsement.

Your collection stays here.

The site stores favorite object IDs, room-story IDs and your chosen palette in this browser’s local storage. There are no accounts, advertising trackers, analytics scripts or third-party font calls. If storage is unavailable, the controls remain usable and explain that changes last only on the current page.

Typography and credits.

Barlow and Barlow Condensed by The Barlow Project Authors are locally hosted under the SIL Open Font License. Japanese accents use system fonts and remain readable text. The phrases pair with English; this is an English-language guide, not a fully translated website.

The room studies

All three room stories, both states in each story, and the cover image are AI-generated interior concepts created for this guide. They show one imagined mid-century home: a fixed Super Famicom TV setup, an adjoining dining nook and a wall arcade. The sofa setup uses Nintendo’s official wireless Super Famicom controller for Nintendo Switch Online with an 8BitDo Retro Receiver for NES/SNES/SFC Classic Edition; the Mini’s supplied controllers are wired. The tabletop and wall arcades use their built-in controls and still need power. Furniture, lighting, hardware and screen details are generated; scale, cable reach, pairing and mounting have not been physically verified.
